Functional/fabulous: I heart my PUMAs
Another shoe review? Damn skippy. Because as I tried to think of something I loved enough to write about this week, the most worthy thing I could think of was my favorite PUMAs. The truth is: exciting shoes provide happiness. If an amazing pair of shoes doesn’t bring you at least fleeting joy, you should go ahead and stick your head in the oven.
I purchased my pair of PUMA Cabana Racer II’s one year ago. It was an impulse buy that turned out to be one of my best purchases ever.
I’m at a point in my life where I need practical shoes. I’m not willing to admit total defeat and strap on a pair of SAS. But I do need to be able to break into a run if one of my kids takes off in a parking lot, park, mall, petting zoo, demolition derby, etc. Since I’m closer to forty than thirty (slightly), I also need comfort. These shoes are supportive and lightweight, and the thick soles are great for absorbing impact. I walk a lot when the weather allows, and the PUMA Cabana Racer II provides comfort for miles.
The best part is they look really cool. They’ve been around since 1981, so they have a rad retro look in leather and nylon that reminds me of my Sears sneakers from childhood. The multi-color pattern (mine are purple/fuchsia/lime green) put me off a little until I realized that they go with almost everything. They get rave reviews from the public. I get lots of compliments from adults and children alike. There’s nothing sweeter than a four-year-old girl telling you she likes your shoes.
The PUMA Cabana Racers are funky, fun, affordable and comfortable. I’ve worn them no less than 500 times and they are still in great shape. Someday I will own a pair of Fluevog Mary-Jane heels (those are awesome and they will be mine), but for now my PUMAs are my fabulous shoes.

Ah, how I long to own light blue suede Pumas with a white swoop on the side… I have not found them yet, but one day I shall!
Also: I once owned a pair of red wool plaid CHucks. They are without a doubt the coolest shoes I ever owned.
You are a lucky woman. Sneakers are not a look I can rock, myself.
Do give in to the Fluevog. You won’t regret it!
Pumas are awesome, you’re right. I’m on it. Penni Jones, please provide more style tips to fellow preschooler chasers asap. Some ideas on purses/satchels/diaperbags that are somehow cool would be fantastic.
I have some light blue suede Pumas with the white swoop. I’ll try to find you a link. I want red next. I’ll keep working on my sneaker collection until I can get the Fluevogs.
I have a great bag I’m using for a diaper bag, Austin. It’s a Fossil messenger bag that has side pockets that can fit a normal sized sippy cup. I found it on ebay.
I think the light blue have dropped off the face of the earth, kormantic. The red did that for a very long time. I promise to keep an eye out for you. I look at shoes online quite a bit.
Buying shoes without trying them on first is way too brave!
